🚀Getting Started
Do I need to create an account to use Portplate?+
No. You can start designing immediately without signing up. Guest designs are saved for 24 hours in your browser. Create a free account to keep your designs forever and access all community features.
Is Portplate really free?+
Yes. The core features are completely free. You can create designs, use templates, export PNG and PDF, and publish your portfolio at no cost. A Pro plan with extra features is coming soon.
What makes Portplate different from Canva?+
Portplate is built for creators worldwide with strong multilingual support. We support Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and more natively with proper font rendering, not as an afterthought. Templates span global aesthetics, and pricing works for every market.
What browsers does Portplate work in?+
Portplate works best in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Safari is supported. We recommend using the desktop version for the best editing experience, though the app also works on mobile.
🎨Design & Templates
How do I use a template?+
Go to the Templates section and click any template to preview it. Click 'Use this template' to open it in the editor. You can then customize every element: text, colors, fonts, images, and more.
Can I upload my own images?+
Yes. Click the Uploads panel in the left sidebar to upload your own photos, logos, and graphics. Supported formats include PNG, JPG, GIF, SVG, and WebP.
How do I add my brand colors and fonts?+
Open the Brand Kit by clicking the icon in the editor toolbar. Add your brand colors (by hex code), upload your logo, and save your preferred fonts. Once saved, your brand kit is available across all your designs.
Can I collaborate with others in real-time?+
Yes. Open a design and share the editor link with your team. Multiple users can edit simultaneously with live cursors and presence indicators. You can also share a review link that allows clients to leave comments without full edit access.
How many pages can a design have?+
There is no hard limit. You can add as many pages as you need. Each page can have a different background and set of elements, making Portplate suitable for multi-slide presentations.
📥Exporting & Downloading
What file formats can I export?+
You can export as PNG (transparent or white background), JPG, PDF (print-ready with bleed marks), PowerPoint (PPTX), and animated GIF. All formats are available on the free plan.
Can I export multiple pages at once?+
Yes. In the export dialog, you can select specific pages or all pages. For PDF exports, all pages are merged into a single file.
Are there watermarks on exported files?+
No. There are no watermarks on any exports, including the free plan. Your designs are yours.
Can I export at print-ready resolution?+
Yes. The PDF export option includes print-ready settings with proper bleed and marks. For PNG exports, the output is at the native design resolution (e.g., 1080×1080px for Instagram posts).
👤Account & Profile
How do I get my own portfolio page?+
After signing up, your portfolio is automatically available at portplate.com/s/[username]. Go to Settings to choose your username and customize your profile with a bio, avatar, and links.
Can I use a custom domain for my portfolio?+
Custom domain support (e.g., designs.yourname.com) is a Pro feature. You can point your domain to Portplate and SSL is handled automatically.
How do I publish a design?+
Open any design in the editor and click the Share button in the top right. Toggle 'Make public' to publish it to your portfolio and the Explore feed. You can also generate a shareable link.
Can I submit my design as a template?+
Yes. Open your design in the editor and click the Submit as Template button. Our team will review it and, if approved, it will appear in the public template gallery. You'll receive a notification when it's approved.
✨AI Tools
What AI features does Portplate have?+
Portplate includes AI copywriting (generate headlines, CTAs, social posts, product descriptions), text-to-design (describe what you want and AI places elements), AI image generation, color theme suggestions, caption generation, multi-language translation, and layout optimization.
Which AI model powers the design features?+
Portplate uses Anthropic's Claude API for text generation and copywriting, and MiniMax for image generation. AI features require an active connection to our servers.
Is AI text generation free?+
Yes, AI text tools are currently free during our beta. We may introduce usage limits or move some advanced AI features to the Pro plan in the future.
🔒Privacy & Legal
Who owns the designs I create?+
You do. Any design you create on Portplate is yours to use commercially. We do not claim any ownership over your designs.
Are my designs private by default?+
Yes. All designs are private by default. You must explicitly publish a design to make it publicly viewable. You can also delete any design at any time.
How do I delete my account?+
Go to Settings → Account and click 'Delete account'. This permanently deletes your account and all associated designs. This action cannot be undone.
